THE NEW TULAY CENTRAL MOSQUE

Jolo, Sulu, Philippines

Funded by the Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahayan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, the New Tulay Central Mosque, boasts itself as the largest mosque in the Philippines with its four minarets towering to a height of 49.80 meters above ground. Consisting of four floors with a roof deck, this mosque, designed to international standards, can accommodate a maximum of 7000 worshippers.

The structural design features a columnless dome and a column-free interior thereby providing an uninterrupted view of the front from the rear. Due to the nature of the underlying strata, the foundation consists of 560 pieces of precast concrete piles all extending to a depth of 18.30 meters. The main feature of the superstructure is a massive reinforced concrete rigid frame from which many “columns” of the second and third floors are hung; hence, the columnless interior of the main prayer hall.
